Peak to Peak Trail and Wilderness Links

NEWS: 30 1850 OCT 2000

I just mailed in my old Hennessy Hammock today. Tom Hennessy was graceful in that he is going take my standard back and send me the new ultralight at the difference of $49! What a guy. If I haven't said this enough - go get one!

I also fixed my Peak 1 except the leveling ring which melted through in one spot during the recent meltdown. Result is that the Peak 1 stove review is done, and the comparison page is updated with the data.

To top it all off, I have started writing the Compass page. It will take some time to write it all, as there is a lot of info I will have to decide if I should include. I'm going to add it to a new page called Hiking Techniques, along with the Night hiking page.

NEWS: 29 1535 OCT 2000

Added some new sites to the links page. Specifically Hiking Alabama, a personal website of Mr. Lee Van Horn - I'm from Alabama, and have hiked some of the trails he has mentioned, and intend to do them all; and Alabama Outdoors, an outfitter I've used in Birmingham.

Also, I've added the Night Hiking page, to give some pointers on how to hike at night without the needs of lights or technology. Next week I intend to send for my new Ultralight Hennessy Hammock, so look forward to a review!

Sorry it's a week or two later than I anticipated, but the stove comparison is underway. Most of the testing and reviews I wanted to do are accomplished, now a few more will be added because new ideas and designs came up as the experiments were being done. Check it out!

Unfortunately my Peak 1 suffered a meltdown during the testing. Hopefully I'll get it fixed.

Also, please go sign the Guest Book and give some feedback.

NEWS: 26 2045 OCT 2000

I still haven't gotten my scanner working, but I'll get it going soon (I hope). I also plan to get back on the stove testing this weekend so I can finish some reviews.

I have added a Guest Book, so please go there and give me some feedback. Some thing's I'm interested in knowing are:

1) Would you like to see a forum page?

2) Would you like to see more photos or less?

3) Would it hurt if I put some advertising banners for gear retailers on some pages?

4) Is there anything else you would like to see added, removed, or changed?

Thanks!

NEWS: 24 1820 OCT 2000

Sorry I haven't updated the site in a couple of days. Work has been hectic, and family issues drew greater attention. Never the less I'm still committed to improving the site.

I have done some minor clean up on the site, just changing some tables to see if they will work better and doing some spell checking.

I'm also not having success in fixing some of the photo pages because my scanner isn't working. Since I upgraded to Windows 2000 there has been drivers issues.

NEWS: 20 2030 OCT 2000

Started work on my stove comparison tests. So far I've made improvements to the Tuna stove, tried the dryer duct heat reflector/pot stand for a can stove, and tried a can stove. Check out the stove comparison page.

You should see my back porch - it's covered with aluminum bits, dryer duct, water, stove models, aluminum cans, and fiberglass insulation. My wife wants to kill me!

NEWS: 18 2055 OCT 2000

Changed the font to something a little more bold to make it easier to read, and soon I'll start scanning in some of the pictures so I can convert the photo album and family pages to thumbnails. This puts the other stuff (night hiking, compass use, etc.) at a temporary hold until I get the general page setup done.

Some people have asked about more info and pictures on the Hennessy Hammock page, so I'll try to do some this weekend. I'll also update the Tuna Can stove page and the Titanium page with some new info.

Keep coming here and see what is up, and I'll promise to keep the pages updated regularly and with good info. Anyone interested in a forum page? If so contact me.

NEWS: 15 1755 OCT 2000

Just put the site up today with reviews of the Hennessy Hammock, the Lodestone Mountaineering Iron Mountain 5500, and the Tuna can alcohol stove. I still need to do the Aries Peak 1 tent, the Lodestone Overlode, and the stove reviews for Peak 1 and Esbit. I'm really stoked about getting to the night hiking and Compass use pages! This could be fun.

All dates are done in military day/time group. Example:

20 1945 OCT 2000

This means 20 (20th day) 1945 (7:45 PM) OCT (October) 2000 (year 2000). Hope this clears up any confusion.
