Mail Drop - a method of re-supply while hiking. A mail drop is usually made ahead of time, before the hike starts, and a person not hiking (usually a spouse or relative, but it can be a friend) mails the package acording to a pre-arranged schdule so that it arrives on time for the hiker to recive it at the post office.

Post offices along trails like the Appalachian Trail are used to this, and have policies about how long they will hold a package for a person. Mail Drops are usually mailed to General Post.

Mail Drops can also be sent to some hiker services like hostels and outfitters along the trail that will hold your package for you. Many times they prefer UPS or FEDEX. Be sure to check that a service provider accepts packages before sending them.
