Slack Packing is where you carry only what you need for the day. You leave your pack with someone who is willing to shuttle you to the starting point of the day's hike or your pack to your end point of the day's hike.

In the old days, in the 80s, slackpacking was carrying a full backpack but only hiking a few miles in a day or slacking off, going slow or waking up at a shelter and deciding not to hike at all. My original trail name in 1986 was "The Yankee Slackpacker"
