Fire - a brightly lit plasma that is produced from a chemical reaction, typically with some sort of carbon based material like wood or alcohol.

Fire has many uses for a hiker. It can be used to heat food (fire is often quite hot), it can be used to warm a cold hiker on a cold day (did I mention fire was hot), and it can be used to consume some forms of trash so the hiker does not have to carry it.

Fire, because of it's heat, can be quite dangerous and is not meant for internal use, and should only be used externally at a distance or with proper protective gear - which is not normally carried by a hiker because of weight constraints.

Fire building is becoming a lost art. Anyone hitting the trail should be good at it. Having my grandson read "to build a fire" by Jack London. I think it is one of our most important survival skills.

Thank god I don't have to listen to that shit. We're leaving for camping at Dolly Copp...near the White Mountains. Our anniversary is the 18th. That's that same day as Pat's exes birthday, I bought this house and probably more. Pat's son and grand daughters will be there. Life is good.
