View Full Version : One Bag Recipes.... Got some?

Hey all, I got a great book, "Simple Foods for the Pack" that the Sierra Club put out. Last week my GF and I spent a day in the kitchen trying as much as we could, and some of the recipes are amazing. I decided to share my favorite two on here and see if any of you guys have similar recipes. I love the idea of making my own dried foods, especially ones as easy, as open baggie, add water....
Moroccan Couscous
2/3 Cup Couscous
2 Tbs Dried Chives
2 Tsp Curry Powder
1 Tbs Bouillion Powder
3 Garlic Cloves, Minced
6-8 Sun Dried Tomatoes Diced
Handful of Pistachios or Pine Nuts (I like Sunflower Seeds)

Put it all in a ziplock bag at home. When ready to eat, pour contents into a bowl or cookpot. Stir in one cup of boiling water. Cover and let sit undisturbed for 10 minutes. Fluff. Eat.

Polenta Cheese Stew
1/2 Milk Powder
1/2 Cup Dehydrated Corn
1/4 Cup Polenta or Corn Grits
1 TBS bell pepper flakes
1 bay leaf
1 tsp parsley flakes
1 tbs onion flakes
1 tsp Celery Flakes
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp savory
1/2 tsp salt
dash of Cayenne
4-6 Sun dried tomatoes.
1/4 lb cheddar chunked in camp, or 1 cup grated parmesan.

Combine everything but cheese in baggie at home.
In camp, bring 4 cups of water to a boil and stir in polenta mixture. Return to a boil, cover, reduce heat and cook for 5-10 minutes. Stir in cheese and serve.

The polenta stew is like a sleeping pill. I can't wait to try it out this week in the redwoods. Cook, clean, sleep like a baby. Yum.....
