Does anyone know where I can score a sheet of TYVEK about 3' wide and 6' long? The big home improvement stores only sale them in large "house wrap" rolls.
How much does TYVEK weigh for a sheet this size?
Ive heard that TYVEK has to be put in the washing machine several times to make it plyable / packable. Is this true?

BD,
there's a guy over on whiteblaze who sells it 3' wide, by the foot... forget what he charges, but it's not a bad deal if you can't get if from a construction site scrap pile...
it doesn't weigh much, but i forget what it is... something like 3oz for a sheet 3 x 7... less than clear plastic sheeting, anyway, for the same thickness.
until you wash it, or just scrunch it up in your hands a bunch of times, it sounds crinkley. you can pack it up just fine as-is... it's just noisy to lay on.
whatta you doing with it?

BD, send me your address and I'll mail you some, mine isn't Tyvek, it is a generic builders' wrap but it'll do the same thing.

T-A-K, I sent you an email with my home address. Thats cool, thanks for looking out. Ive tried some construction sites around town, but I guess they order that stuff close to what they actually need and I could only find scraps.
Seeker, I was thinking of using a piece as a ground sheet under my hammock set up, or as a ground sheet if I sleep under the stars or just under the MacCat (if I ever get one from Brian :aetsch: ).
Also as a cover for my Mountain Bike for an upcoming ride/race.

Bird dog,
If all else fails, Rainmaker from Trailquest sells tyvek in 10 foot width. You could order 3 ft by 10 ft and trim off the end.

There's a guy east of Burlington that sells Tyvek. He'll sell you a rectangular piece by the linear yard ($2.00/yd. I think), and you can cut it to your needs. He also makes a couple of pretty cool ponchos out of it. I'll look around and see if I can find his info if you want.

If you want it to act like cloth, yes. For a ground sheet, no. It folds up nice and small without washing. Plus the more you wash it, the more pliable AND the LESS water repellent it gets.

That's the guy I was talking about - he sells on Ebay too, but his store is about 25 mins from here. Thanks, Lanthar!
