Not much deer moving so I played with pics.
Can you identify these 3?
What KIND of maple?

Useful wood known more for specific product rather than lumber

Non edible but has a vegetable in it's common name

Can we know what part of the country you were in? (Actually I don't care about 'we' - I need the help! Or, as a wise man once said, "What's this 'we' crap, Kemosabe?"):bandit:

#2 - Princess Tree, Paulownia tomentosia ???
#3 - Cucumber Tree, Magnolia acuminata
No kidding? Red Maple? Mine must be an imposter! The books I have, and the Red Maple I have indicate a much stubbier bud, which was throwing me off. Oh well... next picture, please!:adore:

Hog On Ice,
For some reason the pics aren't coming up for me so I'm not sure if you are right, but to the best of my memory of the order you're right on the cucumber magnolia!
The brown bud is not Paulownia. I'd love to have some Pawlonia trees here. I want to order some but I just planted a bunch of chestnut and osage. They will be next.
The brown bud is actually small.
Here's a filthy hint. It's not a son of a beech or a son of a birch, but it's one sweet piece of ________ (mods if too off color feel free to delete)

Yeah it is a little elongated. May just be the angle I did it at.
