I had a little time off yesterday and decided to go to this little out of the way spot where I can be by myself and no one goes to. Its a nice shaded spot behind an unused building. Perfect for practicing some skills out of the way of prying eyes.

First thing on the agenda was lunch. I brought some of my camping gear over here "just in case". I wanted to make a new soda can stove since I gave mine away before I left the states. Hows it working Blackbishop?

I took a little 8 oz soda can, put 16 holes along the rim with a thumbtack, scored the inside rim of the top until I could take it out, then scored around the middle of the can just above the mid point. Once I had it apart, I cut slits up the sides so I had a bunch of 1/2 inch flaps. Pushed this bottom part up into the top until the flaps engaged into the grove in the top edge. 1/2 oz of fuel and it took off. I waited for it to warm up a bit then put my .7L pot on top with 2 cups of water. That thing started to boil before I remembered to put on the lid. I was amazed. So now I have a simple presureized alcohol stove that really roars. All in all, I think that it took me less than 10 minutes to make the stove.

I also did a little flint knapping and used a flake to make a fish hook out of a piece of bone that I found laying around.

Will get some pics up on here when I get the chance.

Leaving for Asscrackistan tomorrow

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This time tomorrow I'll be on my way to a year of fun in the sun. Taking a nice little vacation.

Gonna miss the fam something awful, but its what I do.

I want everyone on this site to hike a mile for me. Deal?

Hey Jimtanker,
If all goes well my son and I have a trip planned this weekend to Eagle Rock Loop in Arkansas. I'll be thinking about you while we're there. You can look at Rocks pictures to see what it looks like.
Stay safe and come home soon!

Sounds like you have too much time on your hands. I ought to call someone and complain.

Just kidding. ;)

Hey, I know I got it good. Alot better than the outlying FOBs.

Some jackass sent me the latest edition of Backpacker magazine though. Now I have to look at these mountains and drool over the pages of this outdoor porn.
