My 7 year old daughter took ski lessons this past winter and my all the parents were putting these foot warmers into their boots that stick to the bottom of their feet. I tactfully suggested to my wife that we only use them when it is extremely cold, so that she might develop her own hunter's reflex. To my utter amazement, my wife agreed. I'm not sure of the science of all this. I think it depends a lot on age, what you've eaten, and of course how bloody cold it gets.

I would like to try and make one though. Are they meant to be totally air tight, or not quite? How much do they weigh? What sort of fungus or other material can you use? Also wondering if a water jacket might help.
