I've been thinking for a while that I would like to either purchase or make a new pack. After seeing Blackdog's plans for a homemade Gearskin I started thinking about going in that direction.

This is a rough drawing of my plans so far (not to scale - just did it to work out my ideas) I'm thinking of building almost the entire thing out of 1/2" webbing, and using doubled D-rings as the buckles.

Any suggestions or criticisms you might make will be very welcome

This was an even simpler version w/o a belt. Thought it might work as a daypack. Had thoughts of building this first to learn of any problems and changes I should make.

Your shoulder straps (and all the weight they support/transfer) appear to rely on one single connection at the middle strap. Any way to increase the size of this connection or make two? Seems like a weak point.

Also, what material is used to "bag" your packload? If slippery, it may try to push out to the side as you hike...?

DK,
I see one serious problem with your plans right off the bat.
You live in Montana. Less oxygen in the air.:bootyshak
Move to Texas. We have so much oxygen here, we export it like oil.

Dropkick, you could use something like Cilogear's "dee-clips" instead of the D-rings. Might be quicker to open.
