Took some people with us to where there were 12 people. Cut back on the solitude aspect a bit but we spread out on the trail and it was good to turn them on to a place I like.

Bridge going to N end of trail

My buddy Paul where Otter Creek joins with Moore Run. Moore run is this cool little run, all moss covered and with little waterfalls and stuff.

My little tent. Was tight with the 2 of us in there but we slept fine even thru a rainstorm

The little tent allowed me to take a little pack.

Awesome photos, what type of "little" pack and tent are those?

The pack is a Maxpedition Baby Condor. Not an ultralight pack but the only small one I had. The tent is REI Gimme Shelter.

sweet kayaking falls.
Nice double bit slung on the pack.
Are those homemade guards? It looks like leather but cant tell from the photo.
Very lightweight looking anyway.
thanks for sharing.

That looks like a great hike. I have such a love for suspension bridges.

As my .02, we have a river here that flows north south east a west, actually, it's four forks of the eel river, which is currently gross from the drought. But I know a clean part!

Looks like a very nice hike.
I especially like any hike where I get the chance to swim.
I plan many of my hikes just for that.

Turk, I think that is a Nessmuk hand axe on HD's pack. That is a classic among classics.

RE: The Nessmuk Hatchet

Yeah I've never had such nice fires since I started bringing it:beerglass In fact I stopped carrying a stove even except in cold weather.

It was made by Lee Reeves of OK and has bits of hard steel laminated in it.

Turk,

You were asking about the guards. When I got the hatchet originally it has a thick belt sheath it came with. I went out and used it and they handle started backing out of the eye so I sent it back to Lee Reeves. When I emailed him about sending it back I told him how much I liked it but commented that the belt sheath added 4 ounces to the weight. The hatchet itself is about 1 lb 2 oz.

Anyway when he returned it he made me that lighte head guard. It is made out of a couple of peices of rawhide folded over with a thin strip of leather sewn across the top and a leather spacer down the side. Perfect to protect the head but not weigh a lot.

The hande is made out of osage and like Nessmuk's original one bit is steep edged for knots and touch wood and the other thin for clear wood.

HD, you need to get on board and spring for a hammock, you'll never regret it.

I love hammocks but 99% of the time it's my wife and I and they don't make 2 person hammocks.

Of course these aren't all "camping" hammocks (though they would work) these are just some of what came up on the first page when I googled 2 person hammock.
You ought to give it a try.

To barge in, I've also heard that some couples can(very cosily) use the larger Hennessy Hammocks, like the Safari. Never seen it though in person.

Or you could get her her own. :D

That's how Rock and I do it.
