Has this happened to you? Your reading/watching the news and you learn how there WAS a meteor shower last weekend or lasts night. Wow! You think to yourself, "would have been nice to hear about that before it happened"!!! That won't happen to you next week. Because there's a shower this weekend, coming (Oct. 21,07). This year the moon won't be out after midnight, which is a plus.

For anyone camping this weekend, you might be in a great spot to see it. It would be nice to hear, observations and what was seen from different places around the world. I plan to catch it Sunday night, at least.

One year, during the Persiods shower, I was camping at Max Patch (on the AT in NC) and it was covered with people from Asheville and thereabouts just lying out on blankets watching the show. Remote mountaintops are great places to see the meteors. Enjoy!

Actually I was thinking about Max Patch. Saturday drive up and find a good spot somewhere around the bald and get ready for the show.

I promise to stay home this weekend, so you can count on good weather! That oughta tell you something about my usual luck on the trail:bath: (I'm not sniveling, though!)

Where is Max Patch? My wife and I will be staying in a cabin in Walland on the 24th, 25th, and 26th. Want to do some day hiking around Cades Cove area.

I knew you were close by. We are going to be at Creekside Log Cabins for 3 nights doing some day hikes in the GSMNP. Starting out at Stone Mountain, Georgia for one night then Dupont State Park, North Carolina for 3 nights in a cabin there. This is going to be a hiking and relaxing vacation as I especially need it with as much as I have been working lately. I am carrying over most of my vacation for next year when my son does a through hike north to south. I am going to spend about 7 weeks with him then Iíll have to get back to work. Iíll still have 2 weeks left after that so Iíll still have vacation time with my wife. We take an anniversary trip every year. One of the advantages of being with a company for so long is plenty vacation.

Got any nice places to eat at in Maryville? We may have a chance to meet.

What sort of food do you like? There is a very good Sushi/Thai place.

Bear

We both like Chinese but not sushi. Lisa likes Mexican and I am Ok with it but prefer Chinese. If Thai is similar to Chinese that would be great. If you and Dixie are game and have time we could meet you one evening for dinner.

There is a fairly good Mexican place about 10 miles from Walland in Maryville. The Thai food is not exactly like Chineese - more curry dishes and the like. The fried duck in red curry is great.

Chinese sounds good to me. :D My schedule is wide open...lol.

Edit to add... I like Mexican too though.

We will be there 24th, 25th, & 26th and being on vacation our schedule is wide open also. What will be fun is when I tell Lisa we are meeting another couple for dinner. She will say who in the world are we meeting and where are we going that you know someone to go have dinner with. She does not know where we are going yet. One of the things she wanted to do when we got married was every year on our anniversary take turns planning a trip and don't tell the other where we are going until it is time to leave. She will find out where we are going Saturday morning when we leave as she will be driving because I am working nights. It is fun not knowing where you are going but also hard for me as I am a planner and all she tells me is how to pack.

I already have the wine. I am just waiting for my relief to come in so I can go home, pack the car, shower, tell her where we are going, and then get some sleep in the car. I need this vacation. 785 hours of overtime so far this year with more to come when I get back. Next vacation is Christmas and New Year.

Well, home from vacation and have to go back to work tonight. Had a nice vacation with only two days of rain which is good considering the forecast for that week. Got to do a lot of day hiking and see some fall colors. Even had a chance to meet Rock and Dixicritter for dinner one evening. We enjoyed meeting them and talking with them over dinner. I may even get an opportunity to pass him on the trail next year. I am jealous of the area where they live and hope to find myself in a similar area when we retire. Good luck on your retirement Rock and happy hiking.

My Star report. I spotted 3 Sat. night, within 20 min. viewing. Sunday night the peak was pretty cloudy where I was, saw none. Monday night @ 4 am saw 11 over 30 minutes. Mostly because the moon had set by then and about 1/3 were so faint they were only visible because there was no moon. SS :captain:
