I know this is not related to hardcore backpacking, but I'm looking to purchase an inflatable full/double mattress for my GF and I on a week long trip down to the Ozarks. In the car I have your typical cigarette adapter tire air pump. I'd love to use my tire pump to inflate the mattress (buy an adapter?) but I don't know how to make it work. Here is the mattress I am considering:

And the Pump they recommend I purchase:

Anyone else used an inflatable mattress w/out purchasing a separate pump? I'd be open to other brands of inflatable mattresses w/ different air pump attachments if it worked out for the better. thx.

Bicycle tire pumps are designed to provide low volume (relatively) high pressure air, so wont be suitable to fill your air mattress.
My sister has one of those air mattresses that other guests and I get to sleep on when I go down there with a built-in (4 "D" size batteries) pump that works pretty good at filling it up. I think it's an Eddie Bauer brand.
Darned thing only stays pumped up until about 2:00am though. Hope you have better luck with yours.

There's got to be something pretty exciting going on Oops, to keep me up past 10:00pm or so. Like baseball size hail or maybe a shooting in the yard level of excitement.

Get a bellows or foot pump. They are quicker than an electric and much less expensive.
Also as you can pump them with your foot they don't take much effort.
You can usually get one at Walmart or any other place that sells air mattresses.

Quick hint on the mattress also: You don't want it full. You want it just full enough that it keeps your shoulder off the ground when you lie on your side.
If you fill it any fuller you'll have a miserable night.
