Are there any cheaper alternatives to the therma-rest?

Any suggestions would be very appreciated, thanks.

Not really in terms of quality inflatables ...but before you give up on ThermaRest logon to eBay and run down the list. I got mine there for a steal !!

That's not bad for the Prolite 4 Model but unless you really need the extra thickness I'd tell you to try and find the Prolite 3 model. Much lighter and rolls down much smaller.

YUP ...that would be my recommendation. Now be aware that that particular matress is the "short" or 3/4 length version. Personally that is what I use. Are you familiar with the 3/4 length matts or were you thinking this was a full length one ??

Just sayin ...

I am a little over 6 feet.

Does a 3/4 length mean your legs hang off?

=================================

Either legs or upper chest/head. I am 5'10" and the 3/4 works well. I just used my clothes bag under my feet or head and I'm covered.

At 6+ feet you might not like that much "overhang". I think the 3/4 matts are about 48" or 50" long.

Totally up to you. If you need the extra length it's worth the extra ounces.

What about any of these http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Category___73081__244

They look a little heavy and more for camp-by-car sort of deal.

IDK, any ideas? They look a little cheaper too.

Not familiar with the Campmor matts so can't comment. Check the warrany on them or Campmor's return policy.

====================================

Got em both and agree that they are cheaper and lighter but not as comfortable ...it that is a priority.

Z-rests are a good solution if you are going to be using them directly on the ground where punctures are likely. I got my Z-rest to hike the southern portion of the PCT.

I use a surplus Ultralite Military Long Thermarest I bought off ebay for about US$15.00

Here's one for about the same price - http://cgi.ebay.com/US-Military-ThermaRest-Ultralite-Long-Sleeping-Pad-Mat_W0QQitemZ140256355130QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3 286.m20.l1116. Even if you needed to buy a repair kit (which according to the listing, you won't) you're still ahead.
