I'm glad it's Friday, too. I get to go pick up my new puppy tomorrow -- a Mountain Feist. Those wily squirrels better watch out.

I'm going to go check out a Nature Preserve not too far from me tomorrow. Never even knew the place existed. Supposedly a nice little trail.

When I was in high school I turned in my notice to Wally World. I'm afraid I used words that wouldn't go over very well in Sunday School. :aetsch:

I ought to quit and go to college full time LOL. Of course there isn't a lot of money in being a student - but they seem to enjoy it.

...there are quite a few of them who make a career out of being a student. We see them here at the clinic. There are some in their late 30's - early 40's working on their 3rd Masters or second Doctorate. I've asked them how/why they do it and they say that is the only life they've ever known.

I worked with a person like that once. She had a Phd in Education. My observation was she knew how to be a student but had little clue as to what it took to actually run training. Unfortunatly her degree fast tracked her to being in charge of some of the training facilities on an Army post which shall remain nameless. I guess once she ran out of money for college she had to do something ;)

YUP ...it's all about graduate assistantships (code for free tuition and books) and grants. But once those run out you're on your own. We live in a college town and the number of "permanent" post-doctoral students is mind boggling and many of them have never worked in the field for which their education was intended.

My wife has her doctorate but she taught for 3 years in Africa and then 12 years in the states. Her department at the University requires that faculty applicants have several years of practical experience.

I hear ya on that, I've been a professional student for a while. Allows a good amount of time for pursuing outdoors interests. Not a great way of life, but a way nonetheless.
Cheers!
