Anyone tried Tilley's "Lightweight" hats out? At 4 oz, the LT3 looks like a great hat. They are a bit pricey, at $62, but have a lifetime warranty.

I haven't bought one. I can't bring myself to buy a hat that costs more than my backpack (can you say "thrift shop") Yeah, I'm cheap!

They are good hats but I just can't swing it. A lot of the sailors I used to hang with had 'em but they'd wind up in the drink and lost just like the free "gimmee" hats.

I have the LT5, a nylon one. It's great. I got it as a gift a couple years ago. IMHO, it's worth it.

I broke down and ordered one today, the LT3...I'll post a review here after I try it out.

Last July I picked up a Barmah Canvas Cooler hat from Four Seasons Outfitters (877-272-5032)in Flagstaff for about $30. Great sun protection, lightweight, squishes flat and bounces back nicely, and the sides are mesh so it breathes prefectly. Also has a stampede string (a/k/a chin strap) for those windier days. If you're looking for a great sun hat, I highly recommend it. It also keeps the rain off my face pretty well, which I like 'cause I hate cleaning my glasses.

Comes in a few different colors, but mine is exactly as shown below. Well, except that my head ain't transparent.

Prior to this hat, I got my sun protection from a Stetson-style Mexican palm hat. Great protection, but heavy, and it didn't breathe worth a darn.
