A boulder sitting on the surface of the ground which was transported and deposited by glacial action. Also called a "glacial eratic". These are found along the AT north of Sunfish Pond where glaciers formerly covered the surface during the ice ages. A hiker with a heavy pack will often sit on an eratic before removing his/her pack, thus avoiding lifting the pack when putting it back on. Eratics range in size from chair-size to bus-size, and are sometimes given names, such as "Samson's Pebble".
