I have had trouble being able to "simmer" my cat stove. I have made a screen to cover the intake holes. I tried to make a cover the burner but this didn't result in a longer burn time. I used oven liner but the tabs used to control the flame burnt off. Any tips to improve the burn time?

I just used a strip of heavy duty aluminum foil secured with a binder clip. Try using a binder clip, the paper clip may be allowing some air to still enter the stove. The binder clip holds the foil a little bit snugger.

You could try this:

or just leave the lid off your cookpot.
