I don't think that store sold beer when it was open. It has been closed for years.

Kanga

Russell

That's not Dot's. This is an old store in Suches,GA. You never could buy beer there, town is still dry today.

I was trying to explain where to find the road in Suches that goes to Springer and tried to set up a map showing the road.

It worked but I can't figure out how to do it again. So Google map 336 Douglas Dr, Damascus, VA, street view looking west. 4 or 5 backpackers.

I just saw that somebody from Backpacker Mag walked my trail section. (http://bp2.trimbleoutdoors.com/ViewTrip.aspx?tripId=311989) Hey, how come I don't remember issuing them a permit? But the author said some nice things "The trail is very well-marked and well-maintained throughout..." Awww. Now I need to order larger hats to fit my big head.

Their walk involved my whole section plus the portion of the Benton Mac from GA-60 to the DRT turn-off. My section runs from about mile 4.8 to 11.1 on their elevation profile. (http://bp2.trimbleoutdoors.com/ViewTrip.aspx?tripID=311989&mode=TripElevation) The part described as "This is a classic Appalachian ridge trek with numerous short summit approaches of peaks and knobs and very few respites from steep climbing or descending." Yeah no joke, they were there.

I believe the Benton Mac have recently relo'd away from one of the scenic overlooks shown in the article. And as the author says, there aren't many scenic overlooks because there's too damn many trees in the way.

And now I not only know that one of the signs I made is still hanging but also that it's at 34.788396, -84.127207.

Um, no. I'm talking about those people I've seen on the trail with 70+ pound packs containing fire starter logs, fire extinguisher, axes, car camping tents, etc., etc.

Was it really necessary to post a sign pointing to the 'W'oods?I was just glad the water was in that direction. Otherwise hikers would be following the side trail looking for "M".
