I wanted to see where you got this image:

http://pmags.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=21262&g2_serialNumber=2

And if it is yours, can I use it in the 2011 edition?

I'm hoping he did. I'm not so hot at that stuff and this is PERFECT for a page I need.

I stole it from a New York times article. :)

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E0CE0DB1F3CF936A35753C1A9619C8B 63&sec=&spon=&pagewanted=2

Map it goes with:
http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2007/10/05/travel/escapes/05trail_map.html

I can sneak under the radar..not sure about a guidebook, though. :(

As for my article, it is on the ALDHA website:

Feel free to use any of my BMT material!

Well dang. I got my hopes up LOL. I need to make some better state maps. I've got ideas, but nothing good. I was hoping to make an overlay of a road map and then put it over that map using it as a background.

Hey Rock, let me know if you need a hand with images or anything... I'd be glad to help.

I would love to get some help with the state maps. I'v decided to do them similarly to my town maps. Just the road lines, boundaries, water, and contour shading for the mountains. I want to leave the road names, towns, and trail stuff where I can added it as layers in the document. It makes it come out cleaner as I can move things around on it as I add new things to it. For instance, if the trail name splits across a page or if I add a new trail like the Pinhoti, then I can tweak where the trail name is in relation to the page.

I'm also trying to make a large overview map like we are talking about here in this thread. I have a page that I need to cover with something and this seems to be the perfect thing to do that with.

Town maps I've got down pat, I've figured the best thing to do is make them as clean and simple as possible and how to do that where I can also easily re-arrange things on them. They are looking like this:

Add to that - I need to do everything in gray scale.

Rock - in looking at the Cherokee map I have to say that I don't remember the post office being where you indicated but I can't really describe where I think it is other than I think it is on a relatively main street just up from the Cherokee Museum near a bridge.

I don't remember it being their either, but that is where Mapquest and Goggle have it. I'm going to Cherry Log Friday for the BMTA meeting and was planning to drive through Cherokee to check out some of those places I added - some of them didn't make sense in Mapquest to how I remember them. But the way I do my town maps now, all I have to do is edit the icons in the document to reflect their actual locations rather than going back into Corel and having to make a whole new map.

If you can tell me where you went for your re-supply visit and who you used, I'd appreciate it. I'm going to add the laundry, pharmacy, and grocery I used too. You don't have to be specific, ball park names and locations are enough for me.

hotel - I think it was just up the road from the Quality Inn - can't really remember the name Sleep Inn??? basically I remember crossing the road then walking over a bridge then in front of the Quality Inn on my way to the shopping center where Food Lion is located (I got a good deal at the hotel since I was willing to pay cash - one wonders however if it was a good deal for the hotel or just the employees - place was freeking empty when I was there)

resupply was at the Food Lion

dinner was at the Smoky Mtn. BBQ/Creamery close to Food Lion (ribs were rather dry then over sauced to try to hide the fact)

ATM was also near the corner with Food Lion (stand alone kiosk on corner, Cash Point???)

laundry was in the hotel

pharmacy - I didn't need one but I think it was close to Food Lion as you show

used Cherokee Transit a few times in addition to walking - in particular to get to the post office and back to the trail at Smokemont (1 buck for rides in Cherokee and seven bucks to get back to the trail or to go to G'burg)

I like the way that you've done the map. Not too busy so that you can see everything clearly.

BTW I think it's spelled Hardees not Hardies. :ahhhhh:
