Look at it and let me know what you think please. I started with a USGS background and added the trails and such.

I had to save it to view it but it's looking good Rock.

Just trying to work out the process for now. I have already made all new town maps for 2011 and want to have a better set of state maps and an overall trail overview. USGS seems to be my best option.

Looks excellent. Any chance of adding the Pinhoti Trail, showing where it joins the BMT?

with different colors for the trails, so it's purty?

Yes, I can do that.

Color jacks up the price a bunch. I'm trying to get things done in gray scale so the book isn't $25 a copy LOL. :cguru:

Looks good. Everytime I look at maps of trails I've done, it brings back some good memories!

The USGS maps are (probably) public domain too. I.e. no nastygrams from lawyers. :)

They are in the public domain. I've been using that map you had as a guide to what I'm working on for that one page. Imagine my surprise when every line and shade on that map from the NY times lines up with the USGS images.

I wonder where they got it? hmmmm

Pinhoti added to Ga map. This is a best guess, the base FS map I have doesn't show the Pinhoti complete.

You know it would probably be cheaper to sell the book with three different color highlighters than to try and add color maps. So pink, yellow, and orange.

No, I'm offended by pink. I want a blue highlighter instead.

Combination trail guide and coloring book. Cool marketing idea, correctly positioning the product at the target user group's level.

Well I was thinking if you like to pink blaze, you could highlight the trail you plan to go on in pink so you feel more motivated as you hike.

OK, I'm not quite as offended. Just slightly miffed.

That would be a great idea. I could have little pictures with captions and maybe even connect the dots. Like a picture of a guy throwing trash in a trash can, and below it, if you connect the dots right it says:

Leave No Trace

Probably colored pencils would be better so he could erase the mistakes.

Be sure to throw in gold stars, too. This way when you are done with the coloring, it will look really cool on the fridge! :D

Colors?? Don't need no colors - black and grey are all I need. Follow the dark line through the dark woods - leaving a few bread crumbs here and a few there.

Aside from that rant, did I miss something on the map, i.e, doesn't the BMT start on Springer and go east before it joins the AT back around Stover Creek???
Thanks Rock for your good work.
Hoooah!

The separation at the beginning is shown on the map but on that scale it's just a little triangle.

My boy earned his Leave No Trace badge tonight. I taught the class back in the summer and the boys were left with some work to do on their own. My boy was the first to finish it.

Current overview map. I think I am getting there. I just got an e-mail from one a hiker doing his BMT Thru next month - they like the state maps, so I guess I am defiantly going to keep those.

again as image. There is some of the reference map "leaking" out at this point. When I finish it I'll cover that up.
