Zero Day

I do most of my camping on The Pine Mountain Trail in FDR State Park near Columbus GA. This is definitely not wilderness, but it is a real nice trail and you will be sleeping in the woods. It is well used by day hikers on weekends but mid week you will have the place to yourself. FDR State Park has improved campsites and cabins. FDRs Little Whitehouse is worth the trip. The Pine Mountain Trail Association with a web site at http://www.pinemountaintrail.org/body.asp maintains the trail. There is no trail guide (none needed) but you should get a map at the ranger station. Sign in and a $3 per night camping fee is required along with a parking fee of $2 per night. If you plan to use it a lot like I do you can join the PMTA for $15 per year and have free camping. In addition, you can then get a 25$ yearly parking pass for half price, so for $27.50 you get unlimited camping for a year.
