New here and would like to share one of my favorite food recipes.

This is a recipe I copied out of a fur-fish and game magazine years ago and have used ever since and is a variation of bay bread. Bay bread was originally developed in Ely, Minnesota for canoe trips, it was cut into 4 inch squares so it could be stacked and carried in old milk cartons. I have eaten unrefrigerated bars that were 2 years old without ill effects (not recommended).

2 cups butter
2 cups sugar
jar peanuts (1cup?)
jar sunflower nuts (1 cup?)
1/3 cup honey
1/3 cup white syrup
1 cup raisins
1-2 cups coconut
10 cups quick oats (approx. 2 lbs)
several shakes of cinnamon and nutmeg
1 tblsp almond extract
1 tblsp vanilla extract

combine ingredients press in large pan (or 2 pans) inch thick. Bake 10-15 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove and press down again. Bake another 10 minutes. Do not bake too long, you want it a little moister and thicker than a standard granola bar.

This is good stuff. Add a little dried fruit, piece of jerky and some piss-warm Gatorade with one of these bars and it makes up my standard on the move lunch.
