I found this on a pest control website. I'm researching ways to kill fleas in your yard if anyone has any suggestions. Anyhoo, this is suppose to easily remove unwanted ticks. (wanted ones too I suppose):

I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a
tick. This is great, because it works in those places where it's sometimes
difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head
full of dark hair, etc. Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the
soap-soaked cotton ball and let it stay on the repulsive insect for a few
seconds (15-20), after which the tick will come out on it's own and be
stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away.
This technique has worked every time I've used it (and that was
frequently), and it's much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me.
Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this would be damaging in any way.
I even had my doctor's wife call me for advice because she had one stuck to
her back and she couldn't reach it with tweezers. She used this method and
immediately called me back to say, "It worked!"

generally I wouldn't recommend this approach - the soap blocks the ticks respiration which can cause the tick to regurgitate its stomach contents into the person - thus increasing the probability of a tick borne disease being transmitted to the person

Hey SE,
This was recieved a lot better over here than on WB. I guess HHQ has no resident "certified Red Cross First Aid Instructor " waiting in the wings to weigh in.

Great. Now I have to carry dish soap while hiking. This is going to make it very difficult for me to remain an ultralighter.

Just get one of those soaps on a rope! Just don't drop it in a public shower!

For the record, I haven't found any other method that works removing ticks that doesn't involve a lot of scraping or squeezing, which are sure to cause the tick to regurgitate.

I'm definitely trying the soap method the next tick I encounter

Silly. Any tick that can drink hiker blood ain't going to throw up because of a little soap.

Last year I was out of town for work and went walking after dinner in a state park. I was staying in a state park hotel. About ten pm, I found a n embedded tick in that part of the back no one can reach. Oh, man, what to do. Lucky for me the desk clerk was a female too. I have had ehrilichosis, so I could not leave that tick for say, the next morning. I wish some one would invent long handled tweezers! I tried that soap idea. It did not work, but maybe I was using the wrong kind of soap. The ticks are terrible this year too.

The hiker, on the other hand, may feel a little nauseous.

I was worried that night clerk was going to be a 14 year old kid. I was so glad to see it was basically grandma. She had all kinds of tick stories.

douse it with rubbing alcohol. he'll come out head and all squirming and bitching.

then you have the option to flush him, crush him, or set him on fire and watch him dance and glow... then of course, why would you want to do that?
