A resupply option on the Benton Mac & Duncan Ridge Trails at the GA-60 crossing is closed. There used to be a sign at the footbridge crossing over Skeenah Creek directing hikers to the store. Maybe there still is.

And it's for sale! (http://www.georgiapeachrealestate.com/Martins_Dixie_Depot_General_Store/page_1907249.html) So here's a business opportunity!

This is the second owner to have the property since I started spending time on the DRT. This owner expanded the store and added a restaurant but went over the top with the whole 'southern culture' thing. The store's decor and signage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gNlZTlfs9A)was not welcoming and friendly. Didn't catch any good reviews (http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Martins.Mercantile.And.General.Store.706-838-4776). Being in a dry county didn't help business either.

It's near the section I maintain on the DRT. All I know is that most mornings when I drove past the store and would stop for a cup of coffee they were usually closed, just like the video shows, and if I stopped by later in the evening for a soda or a snack they would also be closed.

They were always friendly to me even with my long hair and beard. They would let hikers use their phone to call me.

Why do all the complainants have the same last name?

don't know how it is there in GA but around here there is a large population of people with the same last name - Shifflett or close variations - the joke is "you're not a real Shifflett unless both sides of your family are Shiffletts"

no, those people both said they were travelling. at different times. sounds like one person got disgruntled and then had his brother come on there and trash talk to help him out.

I started hearing about this bing gone this week. I know he has been trying to sell the place since before I started working with the BMT. They were always great for me, but may be a little right wing for some hikers.

They were great to the group of us that stumbled in one cd rainy fall day. Sight of the infamous SkidElk photo.

They seemed to have plenty of tolerance for weirdo hikers.

now there's a project for Ms Janet. A new hostel serving both the AT and BMT conveniently located between the two. No doubt a tidy sum could be generated by charging for shuttles to Blairsville for liquid refreshments.
