Perhaps you have seen him or heard of him - going back to primitive skills and hiking in bare feet..... Very Slowly Hiking & bushwacking....

What would you think of a hiker who is barefoot without a trail or on the trail?

Read more if you are unfamiliar - here

Seriously looking for honest opinions...

this is someone I would not hike with.

Honestly, I like his philosophy of slowing down and enjoying the finer things in life without all the technology and just learning to enjoy the beauty of a sunset, the view from a mountaintop and the sound of a babbling brook, etc....

Kinda the thing that I'm trying to teach our youth today in our Scouting and Venturing programs.

That there is a life outside of texting and Nintendo.

MonkeyBoy

No. He says he purposely does not wear shoes so that it forces him to hike slower to enjoy the moment and the scenery.

He looks a bit chubby to me. Humans invented shoes for a reason. Wandering around barefoot isn't terribly pleasant, I've found, and our elders found. The oldest body ever found, estimated to be from about the era of the Garden of Eden, or about 6,000 years ago, had feet well encased in boots.

Somehow the body was found in the Italian Alps, a couple of thousand miles or so from where some speculate the Garden was located, so if the Genesis story is correct, Eve must have has some pretty strong hikers as kids, and grand kids.

Where do you speculate the Garden of Eden was? You know they had cars back then cuz God drove Adam and Eve out of the garden in his Fury and Joshua blew his horn in his Triumph.

He's a jackass who needs to be reminded that he's not a Native American.

He has taught wilderness survival. To be precise, he has taught unnecessary skills to people who will never use them.

Here's his idea of teaching wilderness survival in the desert (and I know this because when I lived in Arizona I had a moron acquaintance who took his class): going out into the desert and teaching people how to build a solar still. Do they work? Yeah, sure. But then again, if I was thinking of bringing along some clear plastic sheeting, a bucket, a length of hose, and a shovel, I think I'd skip all of that and bring more water.

Troll alert. Or Weary is one of them there fundamentalists idiots. If you truly think the Earth is only 6000 years old you have been indoctrinated and brainwashed by a church that is a slap in the face to "God". I've been to a couple fundamentalist churches that seem to enjoy hating, blacks and Jews and muslims and gays. They have that glazed over expression and their painted on smiles and have been trained to use opposition to their insanity to solidify their group delusion rather than use the gifts God gave them, logic and reason, to gain a better understanding of their universe.
No I do not have all the answers. I am completely comfortable saying "I do not know" rather than clinging to fairy tales and lies.

How does a fundamentalist hiker deal with the fact they are walking over rocks that are 2 billion years old on the AT. I mean how could that be possible if the Earth itself is only 6000 years old? And what about the remains of humans that have been found in Asia and S. America that are much older? And Dinosaur fossils that are millions of years old?

Not to hijack this thread, but I would be interested in your perspective on how our country feels now as compared to the tumultuous late 1960's. I posit that 1968 was one of the pivotal years in our nation's history and was just curious how things feel now versus then. Thanks.

I think to be fair in compairing 1968 to 2011, you also have to consider WWII, and WWI, and not just from the American perspective, but others also. I had two grandfathers in WWI, and a father in WWII, and my mother was in Britain during the war. That shapes things. Looking back I think Canadians used to be tougher, and more conservative, good and bad but mostly just tougher. They also had a more progressive side though, which was born in the trenches of WWI. Without that progressive side I am not sure we would have fought and defeated Hitler in WWII. We need to tough, but we need to maintain that progressive side or else we are in danger of not just being wrong or becoming evil, but losing, and history hates losers.

I love watching the show "Dual Survival". Cody Lundin and Dave Canterbury make the perfect odd couple. But honestly the only thing I can say that the show has ever taught me is to always wear my boots. And wool socks alone doesnt cut it on glaciers or in snow. Cody Lundin does live in a pretty cool off the grid home.
