My weekend hike at North Manitou Island
The first pic is my hammock getting ready for a thunder storm. I found a small grove of beech trees and battened down the hatches.
The second pic is of a garter snake. We saw about six of them in two hours. The were catching some sun on the trail.
The third pic is me on the trail.
The fourth is of the boat that runs to the island. It's about an hour trip.
The fifth shows some huge birch trees found on the island.

more island pics
1.There were some huge beech trees and the trillium were everywhere.
2. The sunset from the campsite overlooking the lake
3. A view of South Manitou Island.
4. The deer were friendly. This one came about 25 feet away. She looks pregnant and she kept mumbling "skids"
5. The forest was full of trillium and other wild flowers.

There is a pretty good sized lake in the island. I talked to two fisherman and they said they caught 90 small mouth bass on Saturday. The largest was 23 inches long and 17 inches in girth. They caught several while I was talking to them. I will definitely bring a fishing pole next time.

Sheepdog,
Beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing. I'm laid up with sciatica (on top of a mountain of schoolwork) and scenes like those sooth my soul.
P.S. ignore Kanga. never met the lady but I suspect she's jealous.

I hate getting old, but I really hate the alternative.
