This scuba diver has some major plans to go find Bin Ladens body.
I wonder if he can find it before it becomes illegal to hunt for Bin Ladens body. Hmmmmmmmmmm... :hmmmm:

Saw an interview with a former team 6 member who said he is Republican and did not vote for Obama. However, he praised Obama for
1) Not telling Pakistan ahead of time
2) dumping the body in the ocean
3) not releasing the photos

You can dump on Obama and say he should have done this or should have done that but if a Team 6 member who is on the opposite side of the aisle praises Obama for doing everything right then I gotta defer to him.

There are a bunch of people hiking the trail this year that are just unemployed. They seem to be more of a cross section of America. After talking to them it seems that they are more frustrated in getting a job than just taking the time to go take a hike. I've met unemployed people hiking previous years but these folks are from vocations that don't have much trouble getting a job. The level of frustration and hope that it will be better after their hike that seems a bit stronger this year.

tens of trillions of dollars sitting idle or working overseas at the moment.
thanks to the obscenely high corporate tax rates.
(yeah, that tax the rich theory sounds good for garnering votes, but not for increasing revenues)
cut it to 20-25% and watch the economy recover as WE create our own $$$ pump.
but......that would mean them giving up control of everything they've wrestled from our control due to their ravenous desire to over regulate everything.

the government has no business getting involved in what we produce, how much profit we make, what we spend it on etc.....

getting the hell out of our way is the best thing they can do.

my hiking partner and i began section hiking the AT on Feb 15th.
3-5 days on the trail then returning home on the weekends to knoxville.

we did this up until easter weekend before i finally snagged a home to build and a few small remodeling jobs.
and i'm about 3 weeks away from completing them all and hitting the trail again.

i'm not one to sit around and mope because i'm not working.
(which is a lot lately)
thankfully a massive stretch of the AT and all of the trails and off trail routes in the Smokeys are within a very short drive from our home.
hiking is relatively cheap, other than the gas involved in shuttling two cars back n' forth as we move north.

This is the politics I dislike commenting about on an AT site. But the facts are pretty clear. George W. Bush left the nation in the worse condition since the 1929, having borrowed money for years to keep wars going with borrowed money, and for his refusal to properly enforce the financial regulations.

Obama had to improvise as the economy headed for collapse. He made decisions I don't agree with, and lost his party's Congressional control.

Nothing that has happened in Congress since last November gives me confidence in the future.

I know that is a popular position, and we may get a chance to test it. But the situation we face is a bit more serious. The last balanced budget was achieved by Bill Clinton, who people with views similar to yours, accused on forums like this of being a communist.

It's been down hill ever since. George W. promptly rescinded the taxes that made balanced budgets possible. And set the nation on the path of multiple wars, while borrowing the entire cost, mostly from Communist China.

George Bush left the nation in a quagmire, though it was not entirely his fault. Bill Clinton refused to regulate the bankers who were engaged in a giant pyramid scheme, that with 8 years of Bush's concurrence almost destroyed the world's economy. Obama took the advice of most economists -- though I'm not persuaded that was wise -- and did what the economists convinced him was wise.

I have yet to hear a criticism in the financial press that claims Obama was seriously wrong in what he did. What special insights do you have JoeyB?

I hear that claim again and again. I've never seen much evidence that it is true.

I've worked for the government and for private businesses. Both struck me as equally incompetent at times -- though big corporations and unregulated banks probably have the edge when it comes to a contest over which is most incompetent.

MonkeyBoy
2011-06-16, 01:23
No.......the government has the edge.

Because an incompetent business goes out of business.

The government just continues on business as usual.

I've done a lot of security jobs for the government, both local and federal and postal services, etc.....

I've never seen so many people sitting around on their bums taking their own sweet time doing little or nothing, and then have a second one watching them do so as their manager.
