I would like to introduce myself as a avid outdoorsman who loves spending time doing anything outdoors with my family, or friends. We are always searching for nice campgrounds that might be a bit off the beaten path - something that is in the mountains, and has fishing and great views. We have stayed in the Cheaha area, and the state park a few times, But the well documented campgrounds are always so full - and the spots to pitch a tent donít have great views. The only criteria we have for these recommendations are
1.) Less than 600 miles of driving distance from the New Orleans area.
2.) Good views from the camping site, and full hookups, or cabins for rent (For the in-laws!).
3.) Streams, Rivers, or a Lake with some Trout to catch.
I have traveled all over the US, with my favorite time being spent in Alaska, however Alaska is a bit further than 550-600 miles. We have generally selected the Cheaha area as it definitely has great views and nice area, but the shortcomings speak for themselves. Also if this isnít the right area to post this - Let me apologize in advance.

Thanks

Nope. You're definitely in the right place. There's lots of folks here who know lots about what you're asking for. Bearpaw should be along soon with some helpful answers. Welcome!

I can't think of anywhere that has great views from a site that you can hook up an RV.

I appreciate the feedback but I am just looking for a campground that would enable us to have decent views from a tent only site, but also have the facilities for the Inlaws - Hookups, or Cabins, in other areas of the campgrounds. - Also the fishing.

Thanks

Ohhhh...

Would the tentsite need car access? Or would you be comfortable with walking a few miles to get to it?

Well the family tent we have is almost 60lbs so a few hundred feet would be ok - But with the amount of stuff we have to carry is wouild not be feasable for a long distance without car access.

I have an RV and a wife who thinks 'roughing it' means having no cable tv. But our rv is more of a rolling hotel room and we don't use it for anything resembling 'camping'. All that being said...

Are you familiar with RV Park Reviews (http://www.rvparkreviews.net/)? And I know a couple places in N. GA that meet a couple of your criteria but you'll either have to drive a little ways for the views or for the fishing.

Ok - what might those suggestions be?

Here are some examples of private, state and federal campgrounds.

Trout fishing nearby. (http://suches.com/skeenah/) From the campground follow GA-60 towards Suches and look for signs to the Trout Hatchery. Always a good indication, right? Fishing all along the stream past the hatchery.

Nearby are a state park (http://www.gastateparks.org/info/vogel/) and a forest service campground (http://www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsinternet/!ut/p/c4/04_SB8K8xLLM9MSSzPy8xBz9CP0os3gDfxMDT8MwRydLA1cj72 BTJw8jAwjQL8h2VAQAzHJMsQ!!/?ss=110803&navtype=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&cid=FSE_003705&navid=110130000000000&pnavid=110000000000000&position=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&recid=10528&actid=33&ttype=recarea&pname=Chattahoochee-Oconee%2520National%2520Forest%2520-%2520Lake%2520Winfield%2520Scott%2520Campground)th at have trout lakes and both are at the base of Blood Mountain.

Would those be the kind of places you're looking for?

There are no fish in the lake at the base of Blood Mountain. I stood there for 2 hours and never got one bite.....

Trout fishing is available. Trout catching is a different matter entirely.

It's just a racket to sell fishing licenses and trout stamps.
