Changing the world, one fire at a time.

This stove is the coolest thing I have ever seen.

At 2lbs 1oz it may be a tough sell. Here's a link with specs:http://www.biolitestove.com/CampStove.html

I've seen hikers lug 36 AA batteries for a USB charger when out hiking. When you can burn wood and generate electricity for only 2 lbs, I think it will be a huge seller.

Like this?

It has potential. Just walking must produce some voltage.

well actually isn't there a set of heal inserts or maybe actual shoes that have some sort of a generator built into the heals?

I can show you how to make your own usb charger out of an altoids can and four AA batteries. Total cost maybe 10 to 20 dollars at most.

I made one that is both a solar charger for AA and USB, and can recharge USB with AAAs. It is on a pack strap bag and weighs about 4 oz.

I'm tapatalkin' ya'll

Roche

I had to pay for the Altoid mints but the tin was free - would it still work?

Is this another one of those Ron Popeil things? Would you pay 19.99 for the Popeil Wonder Generator!?...but wait!!!...there's more!!!

If I'm in the woods I don't want it and if I'm not in the woods I don't need it.

Well if I'm out on the trail and someone is showing one off, I might ask to get a charge while he is cooking.

Ha...just watched the video. Ever notice how these start up product panhandlers often like to throw in the global conscience thing?:boring:

At Biolite we have been providing these to starving Africans etc so they can charge their cell phones. :bawling: So you see how nice we are and how much we care bla bla bla. Send us money because if you don't you hate starving Africans etc. :hmpf:

When I was in Tanzania, almost every African, whether in the city or a dirt hut in the country, had a cell phone.

On Kilimanjaro I observed a Maasai tribesman facing the sunset with his head bowed. I thought he was in prayer - until I noticed he was texting.

We have some friends on mission in Kenya (their 3rd year there teaching school) and the poverty is stunning. They don't need power for cell phones (if they have them), they need clean water and hygiene help. It just fries me when these new companies work the global conscience angle trying to persuade us to part with the filthy lucre. I can think of much better ways to spend extra cash and provide real help to places like the slums in Kenya etc.

Stepping off the soap box now...:argh:...sorry y'all.

I know a guy in Kenya. He's going to send me millions if I just send him $1500 first to cover costs.

I bought one of these from ChimneyHeaters.com . I installed and it works fine. Heats my 2000

square foot house. I have the pump connected to a UPS but I am not sure how long the pump

will run if the electric goes out. I had it installed all winter and did not have to turn on

my Electric heat once which saved me about 200 euro a month here in Romania.

The Electric is not stable here so I had to rush to take out the fire a couple of times

because the water pump had stopped and the pressure valves were going off. The UPS will

solve that but I don't know how long a UPS will keep my central pump going. I will attach a

pic of what chimney heaters are in case you are not familiar with them. The pump is a

Grundfos and has three speeds.
