i'm guessing young hickory. the tree i cut it from was too tall and straight for dogwood.

confession: i left it in the parking lot of the trailhead this weekend and didn't realize it 'til i got almost home.(damn cell phones!)

made me sick, went back and got it the next day on my way to work. Thank God it was still there.

muchos sentimental value.

You can keep the end from splitting by going down to Home Depot and get a copper end cap from the plumbing section. Drill a small hole in the side of the cap, filling the inside with Liquid Nail, slipping it on the end and drive a small tack nail into the hole you drilled.

A proper reply on stick repair should include how many grams this would add to the stick and how many calories per mile would be burned by using this method.:albertein

to save weight, be sure to occasionally drain your stick of any sap buildup that may occur

I have a couple nice wooden hiking sticks. I silcon glue to put crutch tips on the sticks. The crutch tips come in two different sizes.

too much going on in a short frame of time, still no excuse.

i won't let it happen again.

i've had it a while. the only sap it has left is me. i do occasionally put a thin coat of polyurethane on it for sustenance.

You can have any color you want, so long as you want white or black.

It's a fuckin stick.
Not sayin a good stick ain't useful....but ...the woods are full of them.
Now a pole...a good cane pole for catching fish...is just a fucking stick too...and you need to cut about 3 or 4 just for the hell of it....and IF you have to slap the t-lolly shit out of a gator and break it you have an extra one. Jeeze......
Cutting both sticks and poles should be done on the wane of the moon when the sap is down.
