Well I started in the North District and got to most of the springs there, I am trying to hit all the springs listed in the Data Book 2011:

As of Today - Thursday Apr 5, 2012

Indian Run Spring, 101.8 from Rockfish Gap, 0.3 off AT near Compton Gap, big pool, good flow est. 3-4 L/m

Compton Springs, 100.3 from Rockfish Gap, stream crosses AT, good flow est. 4-6 L/m

Hogwallow Spring, 97.1, medium pool under rock, weak flow - no est., marked with orange black stripped flagging, 10 feet off trail

Gravel Springs Hut Spring, 93.7, good pool, very good flow est. 8-10 L/m

Glider launch site spring, 91.2, boxed and piped spring, good flow, est 10 L/m, 30 yards from Skyline Drive (mp 20.4), 0.2 from AT

Range View Cabin Spring, 88.8, boxed and piped, big pool, good flow from pipe est. 8-10 L/m, 0.1 off AT

Elkwallow Spring, 87.5, two pipes, upper pipe est 2 L/m, lower pipe est 4-6 L/m, 10 y off AT - water also crosses AT approx 0.1 S

Note despite what the Data Book says there is no water at Byrd's Nest #4

Today I checked the water sources from Beahms Gap down to Big Meadows

Beahms Gap Spring - best guess 83.1 (this is the spring mistakenly associated with Byrd's Nest #4) small stream from rocks, est 2 L/m, small pools, 100 ft off AT left if NoBo

Pass Mtn. Hut Spring - 80.6, big pipe and pools, est 10-15 L/m, 0.2 from AT, just behind hut

Meadow Spring, 76.9, medium pools, est 3 L/m 0.3 off AT, next to Meadow Spring Tr.

Byrd's Nest #3 spring, 76.2 approx., boxed and piped spring, small pool also, 10-20 L/m, 0.4 from AT down fireroad

Pinnacles Picnic area, 74.1, frost free faucet, 100 ft from AT, sort of behind and to the left of the pavilion as viewed from AT

Hughes River Gap, 71.9, restrooms closed for winter - no water

Skyland Lodge, 69.9 approx., water from restrooms, outside faucets not yet turned on, 100 yards from AT approx.

Skyland stables, 69.1, water from hose outside of office, 50 ft. from AT

Hawksbill Gap Spring, 66.6, piped spring no pools, 2-3 L/m, 0.1 from AT, trail not well maintained, trail post points to spring

Rock Spring Hut, 65.3, piped with two medium pools, 2-3 L/m, 0.2 from AT below and to the right of the hut if standing in front of hut, big rock over spring

Davis Spring, 62.4, multiple streams over old, low concrete wall, 4-6 L/m, 50 ft. from AT, stream from spring crosses AT

Big Meadows Amphitheater, 61.8 approx., old green frost free faucet next to fire ring, 50 ft from AT, strong flow

Big Meadows Picnic area, 61.8 approx, orange frost free faucet in center of picnic area near restrooms, 100 yards from AT, strong flow

Big Meadows Wayside, 60.9 approx, water from restrooms, no water from frost free faucet behind gas station, outside faucets not yet turned on

Lewis Spring, 60.1, no water at spring but 30 ft down road is overflow pipe from Big meadows pumping station, 10s of gallons/m, 40 ft from AT

Bearfence Hut Spring, 53.8, pools, est 1-2 L/m, 0.1 from AT, front right of hut

Lewis Mtn Camping Area, Picnic Area, Cabins, Campstore, 53.1, water from restrooms, frost free hydrant in camping area, rest outside faucets not yet turned on

Spring 0.3 N of Pocosin fireroad, 51.4, 2-3 L/m, no pools, stream crosses AT

Pocosin Cabin Spring, 51.1 approx, 100 ft off AT down tr to cabin 20 ft then turn R on to lesser trail to spring, 4-6 L/m piped with pools

South River Picnic Area, 47.8, no water, restrooms closed for winter and frost free faucet jammed

South River Maintenance Hut, 47.5 approx., 0.3 off AT, upper spring small open top box - good pool est 2 L/m, lower spring pool slow flow no est.

Hightop Summit Spring, 41.9, 10 ft off AT, box with cover, pool in box, low flow est 1 L/m or less

Hightop Hut Spring, 41.4, 0.1 off AT, piped spring with medium pool est 8-10 L/m

checked some more water sources today:

Simmons Gap, 35.2 approx., stream along side trail, approx 10 gal/m, approx 20 ft from AT

Simmons Gap Ranger Station, 35.3, frost free hydrant, next to South Dist. Tool Cache, 30 ft from stone bldg Ranger Station, 0.1 from AT, stream from above crosses under road to Ranger Station

Pinefield Hut Spring, 33.2, pools and pipe, est. 4-6 L/m, additional water in stream along side fireroad to hut est 4 L/m add, 0.1 off AT

Ivy Creek, approx. 30.2, big pool and cascades, 20 gal/m+, crosses AT

Ivy Creek Maintenance Hut Spring, 29.5, boxed and piped spring, long pipe from box to pipe outlet near hut, 8-10 L/m, over flow from box crosses side trail to hut from AT, spring 0.1 off AT

Loft Mtn. Campground etc., no water, spot checked hydrant near amphitheater, probably rest dry also, campground is not open

Doyles Cabin Spring, 25.3, piped with big pool, 2 L/m, 0.3 off AT and down a good ways (300 ft?), along side Doyles River Trail near turn off for cabin

Dundo Picnic area, approx 22.4, water from frost free hydrant(s), 150 ft off AT

Blackrock Hut Spring, 20.0, piped with small pool, est 20 L/m+, 0.2 off AT, much improved over last few years, in front / right of hut

Sawmill Run Spring, approx. 10.0, medium pool, est 2 L/m, 0.3 off AT

any spring with 2 L/m or less will be dry, the rest will be down significantly but still have water, all front country sites will have water

Stream 0.2 Nobo from lower Jarman gap fireroad, approx 8.5, assorted pools, braided stream - part closest to AT 4-6 L/m, 10 ft from AT R if nobo

Stream through culvert under lower Jarman Gap fireroad, approx 8.3, strong flow from culvert pipe est 20+ L/m, pools avail nearby, 100 ft down fireroad from AT

Jarman Gap Spring, 8.2, small pool, weak flow - est 1-2 L/m, 10 ft from AT between the upper and lower Jarman Gap fireroads

Spring near SNP boundary, 7.6, stream from spring crosses AT, very small pools, est 1-2 L/m

Calf Mtn. Shelter Spring, 7.0, piped spring no pool, est. 1-2 L/m from pipe, 0.2 from AT & 10 ft off trail to shelter

and that's all the springs that I had left to document

Damn fine report and thanks. Hope to pass thru there in late May/early June - NOBO. Can't wait to see the bears and touristas - ummmh - I meant bear food.
