Maybe. Popular Science usually does a good job on testing these things.

In Popular Science they had two companies doing this, one was able to work under water. I cannot remember if this was the company that tested that well. I cannot remember the other companies name.

My question is how long it would last. Would the heat off the phone, when in use, cause it to breakdown over time. Plus... What kind of chemical are we going to be exposed to for another cancer risk? Hhmmmm....

If you've spent any time on Ocracoke or Harkers Island, NC, this makes perfect sense.

Speaking of okracoke! Did they finally tear down that deserted sand covered town out there...? My friend was telling me that I should go check it out... He went 30 yrs ago, but now when I ask people about it, they have no idea what I'm talkin about... You have to take a ferry or boat out to it... Anyone know where I'm talking about...?

"Backpacking forces one, by necessity, to walk the balance line, the edge of the sword, between disciplined deprivation and hedonistic gratification: a tiring, sweat-soaking day ends with a plunge into a cool stream; an arduous, lung-bursting climb is followed by a magnificent panoramic sweeping view; and there is the continuous contrast between sacrifice and satisfaction that one finds fulfillment." - Robert Brown

You are thinking of Portsmouth Village on the island of Portsmouth, across from Ocracoke. It is hardly deserted.

I don't think that's it... He showed me a picture that he took standing in the doorway of this building and sand was coming in the doorway... He said he saw banks of sand on some of the old dilapidated buildings... Maybe they cleaned it up? Again, this was literally 30 yrs ago

Maybe it is though, but the article makes it seem like it was never abandoned...

*EDIT*

Here are the coordinates to where he was telling me there used to be a town. And after looking at sat maps of the area, you can clearly see that it has been inhabited at some point but that the buildings are all gone:

UTM 18S 0373127/3850882
