All the fur-kids are up the road with friends. Mayors in da house now... He's pretty short. Light flooding due to blocked drains. One pumping station has gone off line. Nothing major of note tho... Entergy, the power co, is no longer responding to anything. Sustained winds are at 55 mph at city center (where I am)

OK...my mistake...so sorry. :bawling:

Government oversight, by the military engineers, means that the work was actually done properly!

I was thinking back to the Katrina mess 7 years ago when it came out that a lot of the old levee work was substandard due to private contractors ripping off the public.:evil:

The military engineers are a good bunch of guys! :proud: They built the Fox Point Hurricane barrier, (which I can see from my window), to protect Providence. It has worked flawlessly every time a hurricane blows by here. (The engineers keep the pols away so they can't screw up the works!)

Glad most of all is ok out that way. I was a a paramedic on a DMAT team I deployed numerous times to NOLA after Katrina and Rita. I was anywhere from St. Bernards Parish, Jefferson Parish, Plaqumines Parish. The people went thru alot down there, yet they were so gracious, they lost everything but wanted to make sure I didnt need anything. My first trip I was there weh nthe water was still around the Superdome, my last trip I was in Belle Chasse and left Dec. 22 .

I will never forget it.

i kayaked on that river down to the barrier, the actual portion where I could paddle was short, but fun then had lunch in town, would have liked to stuck around for the weekend festival, but was running out of time. I think that's where I saw a model of a Russian submarine used for a movie???

That was an actual Russian diesel sub, the Juliet 484, that was used in the movie "K-19: The Widowmaker". The exterior of the sub was modified to make it look like a nuclear boat. It came to a bad end when it sank in a storm. It was raised in a combined military operation, (who wanted the practice), and later sold for scrap. While being scrapped, it caught fire. watching ariel coverage of flooded areas caused by isaac, water up to and over roofs

it's being reported a tank filled with chlorine is loose and floating on the MS river, not confirmed if it's leaking or not, some reports say yes some are saying no

Cuffs

Just for clarification the levee that was overtopped is NOT a federal levee. Not fixed/adjusted/repaired as part of the C of engineers plan with FEMA. It is a local levee that is lower than most. There was a voluntary evac notice for that area before the storm hit. C of E will now have to strategically breach the levee to relieve pressure or the entire length of it may fail.

I was in meetings with FEMA, HazMat, coast guard and some EOC people just last weekend on stuff unrelated to the impending storm. I was stunned by what is floating up and down that river and even more stunned by all the shit that they showed me regarding attempts to attack boats, bridges, levees and refineries.
We're talking shittons of arms including RPG's, claymores, grenades...
Intricate blueprints of bridges with their weak points hand marked. If the general population really knew, there might be wide spread hysteria and panic.

i'm only stating what i'm seeing on FOX, can't say what the other networks are reporting

last I heard this morning over 800,000 w/o power, i'm sure that number will be higher by tonight

agree with you on the drama, i stopped watching on Wed when way, way too much katrina footage was aired and comparing isaac to katrina
