My brother gave me this knife, it was missing the sheath and was in rough shape but I Believe it is a nice knife so I cleaned it up and made this sheath for it. I used an old belt for the leather, ground it thinner on my belt sander, and sewed it with my old heavy duty Kenmore. I got the rivets and snap at our local hardware store. I rubbed it with old dark red shoe polish, and bear fat with bee's wax to make it look old. The knife cleaned up well, it is a Western L36 and seems to be a really good old knife.

This was my first attempt at making anything out of leather so it is not perfect but I think it came out pretty well.

I had an official boy scout knife just like that in the 60's...but they let you camp fire cook and bury tin cans in those days.

Good job. I have a knife and sheath that look very much like that. My knife was given to me in early 1967 and it was well used then.

I am very new to these forums so I have no clue who fish is. I hope he is swimming around here somewhere.

Cool. I always like things that people take the time to make themselves much more than the junk you buy in a store nowadays. May be a symptom of my advancing years.

Looks like the handle on the knife is wrapped leather. Can you tell?

"and that's usually wrong"
That's because he forgets what was wrong before he can tell you.
It's not the knees that go bad first, it's,...it's... Darn!

Handles on knives like that are stacked leather disks..resilient and durable.

I heard Lugnut's first knife was made from flint.

Here is a folding, lock blade knife I made totally from scratch. Improved muskrat style.

Carbon Steel blade, brass plates, rosewood handle, steel lock crossbar, sterling bail. Ebony and diamond inlay on the side. This was a gift I made for a good friend of mine.

Yeh, the diamonds are cheesy but that is what he wanted.
