Wait. When did that nonsense start happening? A couple of months ago, right? Were we the first people to do that? I mean, it was last summer. I'm taking credit. Or blame. Whatever.

You were the first people to do it.

You HAVE to edit a 20 second segment into the movie. I would think at this point it's a moot point whether you have permission to use the music.

You're welcome.

The weird thing about that fall was that I stepped in a hole that five other people had walked by without stepping in. The good thing about that fall was that I missed pitching myself into a pile of sharp sticks by about two feet. Could have been very painful. As it was, it was just difficult to get up.

It was very graceful! Beautifully graceful! Can't wait to see more.

The artful blending of green screen, CGI, and live-action stunt hikers is what "hiking" is all about. For me.

Yeah, I'm apparently pretty good at falling down now. Considering all of the practice I've had.

I thought that was probably a stunt double and a voice over.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Good one!

Are there any small towns that would be suitable to set up a hostel and shuttle service?

Well, I think that the problem for the CDT is that a hostel & shuttle service would need something other than CDT hikers to survive. Leadville, for example, has an excellent hostel, but there are races year-round in that area, so he gets a lot of business from that. Lucky and Amy Jo are making a go of it with the Raven's Rest Hostel in Lake City, but they have Colorado Trail people and skiers as well.

The one place I can think of where it would work would be Silverton. There is a hostel in the town, but it's pretty no frills and somewhat run down. Like Lake City you would get Colorado Trail hikers and skiers, and could maybe work on an overnight deal for people coming up on the train from Durango. Get some of the jeep tour people as well. There is a need for shuttling there -- hikers can access town from two different points, but Colorado people aren't all that into picking up hitchers and one of them (directly on the trail) is a dirt road with little traffic.

Great little town, if a bit touristy.

Thanks! Feels pretty good so far. Just finished the rough cut last night & need to trim about 7-8 minutes out of it. This is the hard part.

that editing has got to be brutal! there is so much good content in wizards, i know there had to have been some gold you had to leave on the cutting room floor, right? how agonizing is that?

Status report: officially (and finally) finished the editing. The last stage of it involved a test screening with a small group (of non-hikers) in Philly who filled out comment cards. Did one last round of relatively minor edits based on those comments and the DVD is now being authored, which (hopefully) will be done next week. Replication from that point takes 5 to 10 days, depending on how much I want to pay them.

The good news is that it's out of my hands now and I won't be tinkering with it any more. While it's off being turned into DVDs I'm going to work on overhauling the website and editing some shorts for YouTube.

hummmm - is "eat my shorts" something that Jester might say?

btw "eat my shorts" was a fairly common expression back in the early 70's around GE Ordnance Systems - when interfacing electronic signals between different contractors it was important that one contractor could not damage the other contractor's equipment by short circuiting a supplied signal to its return - whichever equipment supplied the signal had to also limit the current so as to avoid damage when shorted - ie the equipment had to "eat my shorts"
