27 years in the woods stealing from camps
He looks/reminds me of MS from WB fame.
Definitely had an off the grid type thing going on.
Not quite Dick Preoneke, but close.

27 years in the woods stealing from camps
I suppose living in the woods for 27 years is a bad thing?
He looks/reminds me of MS from WB fame.I hiked with Minnie Smith. I knew Minnie Smith. Minnie Smith was a friend of mine. That Maine guy is no Minnie Smith.
Ray aka Dances with Mice
(The story says he never talked to anyone for years. Something Minnie could never do. Or "emulate" in MinnieSpeak)
Does he still have the hiking stick you made for him?
Does he still have the hiking stick you made for him?The first one but he wore it down a couple inches and retired it. I made another one for his second hike but, exactly like that hike, it broke.
Matthewski is still using the one I made for him though.
I always have a few characters show up in Georgia ,mostly from Florida <and have to herd them north. Sometimes their skills at so many things amaze me!

Did y'all see his "shelter"? In Maine? For 27 Winters?
Sonuvabitch. That goofball could take cold. I'll say that for him.

I didn't see the shelter? Where was it at in the article?
Only about a 20 min ride from me, not exactly wilderness but woods for sure.
Plenty of vacant camps for him to prey on 9 mos of the year.
Must have gotten lonely a few times , that a long spell w/o human contact

Natural by-product of spending too much time with Lawyers.
Dude did actually talk to someone 17 years ago, so he didn't go the whole 27 years w/o talking to anyone.

Interesting!
If he came into my camp and stoled things from me I would have shot him!!!
That would be the end of it

Some hermit. Sponge off everyone else so he didn't have to work.
Seems to be a lot of that going around.

He was just about 26 years ahead of the curve.

At least the retard didn't vote.
Or procreate.
A DIY extrordinare; he wasn't in a government hand-out line.
He had initiative. Darwins' survival of the fittest.
Might be good to have him in camp, after the apocalypse.
...to have a man that, knows how to get things.
He is a thief and lucky he didn't get shot.

He is a thief and lucky he didn't get shot.
That's true but after society as we know it is over he may be king.
He went into the woods at age 20, built himself a camp, and managed to live on scrounged food, talking to no one, and without fire even in Maine's zero degree winter temperatures, until forcibly removed at age 47. He's one strange guy. A thief certainly. Eccentric. Probably mentally disturbed. But the why remains unanswered. And the answer isn't likely to be simple.

The explanation is probably: "Bat poopy little girl jello water slide".
