Ha! I just read a recipe where the first ingredient is 1/4 cup bacon grease. Thought that's gotta be a good southern recipe!

Cooking in my part of the south...... And swva for that matter is bland to the point that id rather stay hungry. This is why we almost never go out to eat anymore. Closest restaurant with edible food is in Winston Salem, and cost wise is a very rare treat

I told Lone Wolf once grass is worse for you than tobacco. Guess he's proven me right.

The south has the Golden Corral.

Ummmm yeah thats not something I'd be proud of.

And as for the blandness of southern cooking, that has to do with the skill of the cook, rather than a character of southern food.

White people aren't allowed to say it.

Black people have to say it or they aren't cool or hip and they're suspected Uncle Toms.

THAT is some racist bullshit right there.

I think that's what that DJ Imus did. The guy that said "nappy headed hos" about a women's basket ball team.

I personally don't have a problem with anything we've said but 30 years from now when I'm on trial for giving another man's wife a poke they could hold it against me. Oh no, maybe the a holes will hold that sentence against me. Oh no, maybe the dumb asses will hold calling them a-holes against me. Oh no, maybe the dumb asses will hold me calling them dumb asses against me. Oh crap. 30 years from now saying oh crap may be held against me. Darn

Honestly... I take offense to people saying southern food is bland. My great grandmother, grandmother, and mother taught me a lot about cooking. I respect what they taught me and my heritage. If others do not understand that then maybe they should take their ass somewhere that will. Just sayin...

Bacon of Southern cooking, it usually takes me a couple of times of fiddling with a new recipe to perfect it. I made a cabbage casserole last night for the first time, and by God, it will make you smack your mama!

And the first word was supposed to be speaking, but auto correct changed it to something better so I left it.

So, would you be willing to share this "Smack Your Momma" casserole? Maybe it could be adapted for backpacking...
