What's a whoopy sling and why do I need it ? Going to buy a hennessy and just wondering if I just can't live without one ?:confused2

You can live without them. It is just a way to suspend a hammock without needing to tie knots every time you do it.

Wow. That's not where my mind went when he mentioned whoopie and a sling.

you can easily live without one

a whoopie sling or UCR (my preference) allows one to quickly adjust the length of the support lines holding up the hammock or the purposes of leveling or centering the hammock but if you hang the hammock right to begin with or you are willing to retie it to adjust it there is no need for a whoopie sling

Better to have one than not ?

better to have a pair of UCRs instead of a pair of whoopie slings IMO

It is a matter of choice in how you like to set up. I agree with HOI that UCRs are better, but you really don't need them either as the Hennessy comes with ropes you can tie. It saves some time during set up and tear down to have UCRs or Whoopies, but neither is required.

Stands for something like Utility Constrictor Rope or somesuch nonsense. I also find it more manly than talking about "Whoopie" slings.

It took me at longer to post it than draw it.

BTW I'm about to post a couple new methods of hanging the ASS chair - these methods would also work for hammocks and are easier than learning how to make a UCR or whoopie sling

Ok now I know what a UCR is. I think for the first little while anyway,, ill stick with what comes on the hammock cause...I DON'T WANT TO DIE. : )

Screw up your knots with the Hennessy rig, and it's easy to eat some dirt. If you see UCRs rigged a choice of times, they're much quicker and secure than the GG setup. But don't wait on getting a pair to feet out and hang. The best gear is the stuff that gets you out there.

My standard advice RE: Whoopie sings with a Hennessy is to wait a year to see if there are any problems with your hammock. Hennessys seem to rarely have warranty issues, but it CAN happen. Changing the suspension voids your warranty. Therefore the wait a year advisory.
