Well, there's camp meals and then there's backpacking meals.

One could include the use of Dutch ovens. The other could be done at a car camp.

I think mine would be tacos, but I ate well on the trail. My mother and I came up with awesome dehydrator recipes

I keep it simple.

Lipton's side dishes have lots of varieties.....both pasta and rice.
And they cook quickly.

yep, that's what i do after the first night out of town (second night when it is cooler and fresh stuff keeps a little longer). usually add foil salmon or canned chicken to the lipton sides (now knorr sides). also do dry boxed strogranoff (w/any steak leftover), dry boxed chilli w/summer sausage or beef jerky, and jambalaya w/summer sausage.

Breakfasts include vege omelets on muffins w/sausage, blueberry pancakes, via coffee

Mountain house clam chowder with some instant potatoes thrown in is good. I also like stuffing, taters, gravy and chicken packet.

Whatever I can kill and skin, arrrrrghhh!

Not really, it's usually Lipton's or similar. A lot of time, all I want is a pack of crackers or some cookies -- especially if it's hot.

I like this stuff (http://godgunspoliticsandhammockcamping.blogspot.com/2013/04/there-might-be-lynching-in-texas-tonight.html), but I defeat the whole vegetarian aspect by slicing up one of these (http://www.worldmarket.com/product/smoky+valley+spicy+summer+sausage.do?&from=Search) and putting it in the pouch while its heating. They're only about 3" long, just enough for a single serving. Three different flavors, found in the back racks in the World Market stores.

Has the advantage, at least to me, of being single serving as well as being under $4.00 a pop. I find that there's too much food in the Knorr sides and Mountainhouse stuff. This is the kind of thing Goldilocks would find is juuuuuust right. They've got a bunch of flavors (http://www.storehousefoods.com/). The Santa Fe Black Beans & Rice is real good, especially with that sliced up sausage, and I'm about to try out the BBQ Chicken, Rice, and Beans.

The only real embarrasing thing about them is that when somebody asks me where I found them, I have to say "In the gluten free aisle at Sprouts."

VARIETY!

Depending on how long you're out and how often, you'll need variety. I went thru a Mary Jane's Farm phase, now completely kaput. Then a Tasty Bite phase---now history. Then a dehydrated spaghetti phase.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2005/Shunkas-Copperhead-Dance-at/i-Hc9wksn/0/L/50-3-L.jpg
Here's my Mary Jane's Farm black bean phase.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2008/Trip-72/i-wRdZ9VR/0/L/Trip%2072%20060-L.jpg
Here's my fried egg phase---I'm still heavily into taking out fresh eggs.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2008/Climbing-the-Nutbuster-for-the/i-Hss97zn/0/L/Trip%2073%20043-L.jpg
Then I went into a fresh cooked broccoli phase.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2008/Climbing-the-Nutbuster-for-the/i-svpbwVR/0/L/Trip%2073%20048-L.jpg
Of course the Oatmeal phase never has ended even after 33 years of the stuff.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2008/Pit-Vipers-in-the-Citico-Trip/i-wGrBFsN/0/L/Trip%2078%20007-L.jpg
Then there was that Primal Strip phase. And eech . . . Clif bars.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2008/Backpacking-with-the-Integral/i-mpzzBKq/0/L/Trip%2087%20011-L.jpg
Then of course the goat cheese and fresh fruit phase---excellent.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2010/16-Days-with-Wisenber-and/i-dv7Jczt/0/L/TRIP%20112%20055-L.jpg
Then my 2 year Mary Jane's Farm polenta phase.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2012/20-Days-to-Panther-Branch-and/i-qMrFJ8w/0/L/TRIP%20136%20074-L.jpg
And then the long-lasting wild edible phase---this time it's stinging nettle.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2010/Coy-Williams-and-the-25th/i-c9gSvQF/0/L/TRIP%20114%20057-L.jpg
And then my brief love affair with Hawk Vittles.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2012/Tipi-Walter-Big-Frog/i-SR2Pb56/0/L/TRIP%20134%20128-L.jpg
And then my cashew butter with cinnamon raisin bread phase---and still ongoing.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2011/Bald-River-with-Tipi-Walter/i-9PxMMJG/0/L/TRIP%20127%20129-L.jpg
And then my brown rice with egg phase but I don't take brown rice out much anymore unless it's blended and dehydrated. Long story.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2010/10-Days-In-The-Cold/i-9Btc57Q/0/L/TRIP%20117%20062-L.jpg
And then my hot chocolate phase which did not last long.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2011/Tipi-Walter-and-Johnny-Molloy/i-NmMXQHX/0/L/TRIP%20125%20021-L.jpg
And then my dehydrated egg powder phase which was brief. I prefer fresh eggs.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2011/Tipi-Walter-and-Johnny-Molloy/i-gdBhvJM/0/L/TRIP%20125%20125-L.jpg
Did I already mention my Tasty Bite phase? This one is mixed with some tempeh.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2011/Tipi-Walter-and-Johnny-Molloy/i-zb9jhDW/0/L/TRIP%20125%20154-L.jpg

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2011/Tipi-Walter-In-Mt-Rogers/i-CdJVrJN/0/L/TRIP%20123%20068-L.jpg

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2011/Tipi-Walter-Big-Frog-Cohutta/i-KTc2x6F/0/L/TRIP%20122%20286-L.jpg
Any vegetarians around? This is fake turkey called Tofurkey or something. No too bad.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2011/Cranbrook-School-Backpacking/i-QLM7wn4/0/L/TRIP%20120%20109-L.jpg
Then I got on a Dr McDougall head rush.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2013-1/Tipi-Walter-Slickrock/i-SRg6RD3/0/L/Trip%20146%20189-L.jpg
Then I chucked all my store bought backpacking foods and got a TSM home dehydrator and make all my cooked meal from homebase. This is a meal of dried red bell peppers and dried yellow corn.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2013-1/Green-Cove-Cabin/i-Lj6Nhg9/0/L/TRIP%20147%20050-L.jpg
My newest most current fixation is cooked brown rice blended with organic milk and dried into a fruit-leather kind of thing. Add to bean and tomato soups, etc.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2013-1/Green-Cove-Cabin/i-CQH5M3L/0/L/TRIP%20147%20097-L.jpg
I recently started drinking Via coffee too, mixed with honey and a little nido.

http://tipiwalter.smugmug.com/Backpacking2013-1/Green-Cove-Cabin/i-Bkh9qpS/0/L/TRIP%20147%20019-L.jpg
But I always like my eggs---craving protein I guess.

No picture to post, but I like to take a half box of any brand cheddar or garlic potatos (not mashed) and add some spices, some dried milk, some dried veggies, and a pack of salmon or chicken or what ever meat you like. Dump in a couple cups of boiling water and simmer till thick and cooked through.

You shouldn't use a camera to poke at a snake. That's snake abuse and the poor thing was probably camera shy.
Next time poke with your finger. We could all use the laugh.

During the six days of absence, one of the excuses offered by Sanford's spokesperson was that Sanford was hiking the Appalachian Trail.[1] As a result, "hiking the Appalachian Trail" or "hiking the Appalachians" became an acceptable euphemism in the English language

A euphemism for flying to Argentina and eating at the Y. (Hanging On Topic by my fingernails.)

In 2013, Sanford ran in and won the special election to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Tim Scott from the United States House of Representatives.

Ain't being political. Just sayin'.

That happened to me also on a Walls of Jericho hike - Waterdog pulled out two cornish hens, cooked them on a spit over the fire, ate one and fed the meat from the other to his dog
