Here is a product to check out www.BugBand.net. I haven't tried this but it is supposed to be a non-DEET alternative.

BTW Geraniol: NOUN: A fragrant, pale yellow liquid alcohol, C9H17COH, derived chiefly from the oils of geranium and citronella and used in cosmetics and flavorings.

Geraniol is also used in the "the Fragrance mix" to screen for fragrance allergies. :(

Btw, it works (as a repellant) by blocking the insect's moisture receptors and/or by fooling its sense of scents (smells?).
