I have stumbled onto a passel of reflectix at work and wondered if anyone here knows of a good use for it. I'm happy with my closed cell foam cozy, and wondered if, for instance, it can be used as under-insulation for a hammock, as a light blanket, or....? Of course, it may be too fragile, but being 3/4 Scots I hate to throw anything away.:ahhhhh:

If you make a hat out of it the aliens can't control your mind. Just being helpful.

OOOH! Can it be used in a garden? Or for beekeeping?

Wishful thinking. It'll probably go in the bin with the last stock you invested in. Just sayin.

I could use it to suppress weeds around tomato plants. (if I can get tomato plants growing). I could use it to insulate bee hives. (if I can grow bees here in St. Louis)

That makes sense. I didn't see the instructions for the new and improved helmet though. I may have had my old helmet on too tight.

Once I used it to make a cozies for backpacking freezer bag cooking but the silver stuff wore off pretty fast and the tape I used to seal it kept coming off.

It's not a backpacking thing but I use it to line the lids of my Igloo coolers. When we RV camp and make a lunch to take somewhere in a daypack I use it to wrap the stuff that's supposed to stay cool'ish. That would also work on day hikes or trail maintenance trips if I could ever remember to actually do it. In the RV it's always stored in the big cabinet next to the pull-out but at home it's ... somewhere.

As someone who spends a lot of time with Microsoft tech support, I take offense to that remark.

Nothing to do with Reflectix ( ... as if that's been a problem here ... ) but I was raised in a fundamentalist church then switched to the Presbyterian church in my late teens because of a long story. Anyway, the fundies were full immersion kinda folks. The first time I saw a Presby baptism with sprinkling I thought "Cool! Dry cleaning!"

john pickett
2015-03-27, 13:38

I've heard of people using it in conjunction with their pads as a wy to retain more body heat on those cold nights. Some of the hangers have taped sections that extend their pads extra wide so their shoulders are more protected. It wouldn't be difficult to use some tape and cut and fashion booties for extra insulation on those really could nights. Cheaper and easier than making down booties.
