New here and to hiking to an extent, just regular day trips and couple overnights years ago in the Beartooth-absarorika wilderness in Winter in Montana (13 at night) so really looking forward to starting hiking again. Planning on trying the AT but in sections and over many years as conditions (both weather and physical) allow. So basically starting somewhat from scratch and right now just getting as much information and then figuring it into what I really want (know trial and error are going to determine this in the end.
So basically right now going to be lurking and finally asking LOTS of questions. For the starting point wonder if a section/topic that allows alot of this to be looked at so not to be asking redundant questions?
Thanks.

Hi and Welcome!
Go up to the top of this screen and in the upper left is has the "SGT Rock"....that is actually a hot link....click it...it will switch to TONS of good reading information. Get lost in that for a few days. Write down questions...you might find an answer (or three) while browsing later. If you happen to want to explore Hammock camping, there are a few great sites devoted to that. This forum isn't very active, however the members are super! Some of "the other sites" are very active....90 percent of which is noise...... Once you start getting some questions and not finding answers, fire away!
But also, many questions are also "personal preference" and also "trial and error". Such as "which shoes are BEST for the AT"......yeah.....50 people will have 45 "suggestions"....

For the best hiking experience you will need a gun, a dog, a hammock, and at least 8 rolls of tp per mile.

Scratch TP, use hiking sticks. Just remember which end you used.
