First / Previous / Next / Last July 03 2001 Distance Traveled: 11.0 (+.6 in side trails) Total Miles: 119.8 (125.7) Location: Blackwell Creek Bridge. Entry: This morning the Hennessy Hammocks worked great for us. During the evening we used them as vestibules and again in the morning. We started walking at a moderate pace and made Cedar Mountain for lunch. After an hour we moved on because of thunder noises. We reached Woody Gap and got water from a nice spring. A couple with huge dogs showed up and we talked a while about the dogs until they moved on. Prior to us leaving, a north bound hiker showed up who had just done re-supply in Suches. We moved on and 1/2 mile down the trail a thunderstorm hit hard. We had sever weather and lightning for the next 3.5 miles. Both of us got soaked, and Helen's sleeping bag got wet. We pressed on until we go to Blackwell Creek where we found a great site. We immediately put up our hammocks in case of rain - which it did. After cleaning up we had apple cider mix with some bourbon added, then fixed dinner. Later I checked around camp and found a size 5 wool Army glove liner, a safety cap off a grenade simulator, some MRE matches, as well as other MRE trash. I believe the Rangers must train here occasionally. First / Previous / Next / Last
