I've put up the review of the Moonbowgear Gearskin. It's a pack that fits into the category of "thinking outside the box". Like the Hennessy Hammock getting some people to abandon tents, the Gearskin should do the same for backpacks.

I just got in from Arkansas and hade a great time. I've just about finished collecting data for the Moonbow Gearskin review. Tonight I will write some more on the review and hopefully have a mostly finished review up on the site before I go out of town again tomorrow. I hope to have the entire thing done by the 7th of July.

Besides finishing the Gearskin review, I also plan to transcribe my journal and get it up before the 7th.

Block leave starts tomorrow!

The car is packed, and everything is set for the family Arkansas hike. I'll be away from the 22nd to the 26th of June. So no web updates for a while. But look forward to more on the Hennessy Hammock and the Moonbow Gearskin when I get back.

Another small update today. The self extracting zip file for my example Excel documents had become truncated and needed a fix. So now that problem has been corrected.

I haven't been doing much hiking lately, but I have been reading. If you like a good trail journal, check out "Then the Hail Came" by George Steffanos. I'm only on chapter 12. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have so far.

Small update fixing a couple of errors on my Heat Reflector Tip for the Hennessy Hammock. I'm not an engineer or scientist, but I've been experimenting and following some posts of people that are, so hopefully I've gotten the strait poop on theories behind staying warm in a hammock down for others to read. If you have some background in this stuff and find an error in the facts part PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

I found the new URL listed on another search engine this week, were making progress here!

NEWS: 08 1800 JUN 2002

So today I decided to do another update because of my favorite piece of gear - the Hennessy Hammock. Today I talked to Tom Hennessy about the hammock, talking about many aspects of the hammock such as two people in a hammock, new sleeping bag ideas, ponchos, ideas for optional rain gear, sleeping systems, his experiences with the hammock, etc. We had a really good conversation. Today I put on the Snake Skins which are a great idea to improve the hammock for set up and tear down. He has some more surprises in the works which should further solidify the hammocks new place as a shelter of choice for many hikers.

I've started another tip page because the others were getting so full it would slow down the site, and I keep getting new ideas all the time for the hammock pages. You can see pictures of the Snake Skins and how they work on the new tips page.

In other news, I've completed about 90% of the Moonbow Gearskin review. All I'm lacking is testing the Gearskin with a 50 pound load, a real hiking trip with the Gearskin, and getting my custom poncho made and delivered. I've also added a few new links to the Links Page, and added Jonathan McCue to the Hall of Honor

I've updated my Hennessy Hammock review with a new piece (more like an update) on heat reflectors. After a lot of testing over two years, and reading some stuff from people more educated than me, I've come to the conclusion they are a myth. More on that can be found in the article.

I also just received a new accessory for the Hennessy Hammock called a Snake Skin. I don't know what it is, but hope to use it and test it on my upcoming hike.

I just fixed a couple of small errors on the Hennessy Hammock review like misspelling the name Hennessy. There is also a new accessory in the works I may get to test soon.

I've also started putting my June Arkansas hike plan on line so others that may be interested can see it. There has been some interest from the Trail Talk community about a group hike. Check it out and if you have some good camp sites or information to add, please drop me a line.

NEWS: 01 1100 JUN 2002

I just returned from the field last week and I'm now trying to get caught up on site stuff.

The good news is I have the data for some more stuff on the Hennessy Ultralight A-Sym hammock review. I have got another tip to add about temperatures and sleeping gear, and I've got everything I need to finish the military portion of the review.

I've also got some vacation coming up in June and have started planning a 4 day hike in the Ozarks with my daughter, her boyfriend and maybe my son too. It's in the very preliminary stages of planning, so if any Ozark hikers out there know of a good spot, drop me a line. It just needs to be about 30-40 miles, be in the mountains, and hopefully be some sort of a loop so I won't need a shuttle.

And also, the site has finally started showing up on some search engines at the new domain!

All dates are done in military day/time group. Example:

20 1945 OCT 2000

This means 20 (20th day) 1945 (7:45 PM) OCT (October) 2000 (year 2000). Hope this clears up any confusion.
