In a few hours I'll be doing that American tradition of driving all over for Christmas vacation. I hope everyone has a merry Christmas and I'll be back in about 2 weeks for new posts and to see if anyone really wants to buy a stove.

Happy Holidays,

Because of some demand, I've now got a page where you can order some of the stoves I use and have build. I still think you should build your own, but if you want to save yourself the time and/or hassle, or you don't have ay skills. I'll build it for you.

Started my Christmas vacation today, and I'll be leaving town Friday. Don't expect any updates on the site after I leave on Friday. When I get back on the 2nd of January I'll post any new items or information then it is off to the National Training Center on the 8th.

Today I added a link on the food page to a calorie calculator so you can figure out how many calories you are supposed to get.

After posting Building a Better Windscreen, I had e-mails this morning asking me questions about materials. So I added some information to the page clarifying what material to use and where to get it. I also added some updated information to my Turbo V8 page about windscreens and heat exchangers.

I've also been doing some site clean up and fixing some formatting on almost every page in the site trying to get them the same for better browser viewing.

Played with my stove a little more last more last night and cannot seem to get the performance better than .66 fluid ounces of alcohol to boil a pint of water. An interesting thing I found was that having your screen too big actually screwed up the stove. After trimming down the screen to the optimum size, I have a stove and screen right at 1 ounce. I've posted instructions about windscreen construction here: How to build a better windscreen.

There are also a couple of small fixes to the packing list and equipment pages because I did some poor editing on the 13th.

Updated my packing list and some of my gear links today. Nothing big.

Today's updates: fixed the link to Nunatak since they have a new web site, and added a link to the ATML Surrogate - trying to resurrect the old ATML group.

Now that I have my computer working I have started playing with some new stuff. Today I figured out how to use the thermocouple that Jeff sent me, now I can test stoves with lids to see how much more efficient they are that way. I think that may be my project this weekend.

2 Weeks to my Christmas vacation, no site updates for two weeks then.

Then about 1 week home.

Then four weeks at the National Training Center! I won't be able to update the site then either.

Then about 2 months until I move to Germany!

NEWS: 08 1700 DEC 2001

I finally have my computer running again. Even tough I haven't gotten everything working the same yet, I'm finally able to update my site again after 2 1/2 weeks.

Getting ready to leave again tomorrow for a bout a week and a half. I added a link on my food page and fixed some links on my links page.

For some reason I haven't been able to access Trailplace or Thru-Hikers websites. It looks like the server is up but the sites are down.

All dates are done in military day/time group. Example:

20 1945 OCT 2000

This means 20 (20th day) 1945 (7:45 PM) OCT (October) 2000 (year 2000). Hope this clears up any confusion.
